Abstract

572,386. Reinforced concrete. DOWSETT ENGINEERING CONSTRUCTION, Ltd., and DOWSETT, H. L. April 8, 1943, No. 5662. [Class 20 (iv] A method of making reinforced concrete sleepers and similar articles such as beams and stanchions consists in placing a number of parallel wires 19 under tension, placing an openended trough-shaped mould 12 around the wires, arranging a metal anchor 20 to engage each wire at or near the end of the mould, closing the mould by perforated or slotted end plates 17, 18 engaging the wires, filling the mould with concrete and allowing it to set or harden, and before or after the closing and filling of the mould welding the end of each wire to the metal anchor. The mould shown has transverse bars 14 bolted to its flanges 13, the bars carrying pins 15 which form bolt holes in the concrete sleeper. The anchor 20 is in the form of a slotted plate and is welded to the reinforcing wires when the end plates are removed from the mould. In modifications the anchor is formed by ferrules washers, or wire which are anchored to the wires 19 by resistance welding. Specification 572,387, [Group V], is referred to. The Provisional Specification also refers to Specifications 338,864, [Class 20 (iv)], 364,621 and 393,576, [both in Group V].
