Abstract

570,223. Frictional pocket igniters. ROBERTS, F. J. Dec. 22, 1943, No. 19316. [Class 75 (iii)] The wick cap carrier 38 of a pocket igniter is raised and sparks produced at a flint 84 to ignite the wick 86 by pressure on a lever 48 pivoted at one end to a boss 16 on the top of the fuel container 10 and formed at the other end with rack teeth 56 engaging toothed wheels 66 at the opposite ends of a hollow shaft 32 freely rotatable on a spindle 26 carried by brackets 22, 24 on the top of the fuel container 10. The shaft 32 carries a hub member 70 which operates a friction wheel 36 engaging the flint 84 through a one-way driving device consisting of T-sectioned spring 80 engaging notches on the member 70 and internal ratchet teeth 78 on the wheel. The movement of the lever 48 is resisted by a spring 60.
