Abstract
566,434. Drawing wire. CALLENDER'S CABLE & CONSTRUCTION CO., Ltd., MAcLELLAN, G. D. S., and CAMERON, A. Aug. 6, 1943, No. 12728. [Class 83 (iv)] In wire drawing, lubricant is fed to the die under pressure produced by the movement of the wire itself acting as a pump. The dieholder 1 is supported in an oil chamber 4 fed from a tank 9 by a pipe 10, valved at 11. A valve 17 controls delivery to a pipe 6 supplying an auxiliary chamber 7.. The wire 8 passes into this with a good fit at 16 and passes through a tube 5 with small clearance, the viscous drag or other tube setting up the pressure. The chamber 4 may be drained at 14 and a separate pump may be employed to maintain a pressure flow across the face of the die to carry away swarf, the viscous drag then serving to prevent leakage along the wire.
