[Class 97 (iii)] [Also in Group XIX] A scale carrying graduation adjacent an edge thereof is made by applying the graduations (and other data, if desired) to a flat sheet blank deforming the sheet to a convex shape with the graduations on the outer face 13 and then forming a plane surface 15 on the inner side of the edge of the sheet. In the case of a strip-shaped member, surfaces 15 are formed along each edge and are in the same plane. The scale may be of rectangular shape carrying graduations on two edges at right angles and may be deformed with respect to two perpendicular axes. The invention may also be applied to a protractor of circular or semicircular shape.
