Abstract

564,030. Feeding webs. KINGSBURY, A. W. G. Dec. 22, 1942, No. 18216. [Class 100 (i)] [Also in Group XXV] A reeling device, for use in recovering a length of material wound upon a cable is provided with frictional means for restraining slip between a driving member and the reel, and the amount of slip permitted is determined by the movement of a cam under control of a roller engaging the strip running on to the reel. The reel 15 is mounted upon the driving member 10 and a nut 28 and spring washer 29 hold the reel against a bearing 23. The strip or other material 19 passes over the roller 21 carried by an arm 20 having a boss forming a cam member 24 engaging a second cam member 25 on a fixed sleeve. A spring 26 serves to hold the arm 20 in its normal position, and the tension in the material 19 acts against the spring to rotate the cam to release the side pressure on the reel. The device may be arranged for winding a length of material on to a cable.
