Abstract

970,036. Tape dispensers. KODAK Ltd. Aug. 21, 1963 [Sept. 13, 1962], No. 33064/63. Heading A4G. A dispenser for adhesive tape having an auxiliary protective tape thereon comprises a base 5, Fig. 1 carrying a journal 4 on to which is placed a hollow shaft 2 with a bearing collar 3 carried by a support 1. A protective tape rewind spool B2 and supply spool B1 are slid on the shaft, the core 8 of spool B2 being of greater diameter than that of the roll of tape I on core 17 of spool B1, and a pad of e.g. felt 15, having a good coefficient of friction is placed between the spools. On pulling off the tape from spool B1 through two rollers 30, 31, Fig. 2, one being smooth and recessed and the other carrying rubber rings in grooves, interconnected by equal pinions 39, the adhesive tape issues at b1 and the protective tape b2 passes along a helical guide groove from the level of spool B1 to the lower spool B2 at which it is wound under tension, since the frictional pad 15 allows the small spool B1 to turn the large spool B2 with a greater peripheral speed. Nut 26 and spring 25 permit adjusting the pressure on the pad 15 to allow correct rotation and slipping of the spools.
