Abstract
562,752. Bicycle handle-bars. SCHWINN, F. W. Feb. 16, 1942, No. 2069. [Class 136 (iii)] To relieve the rider from vibrations in all directions, the central portion 15 of a handlebar is of reduced diameter and surrounded by a cushioning-sleeve 19 of vulcanized rubber or like resilient material, the sleeve being surrounded by a hard protective shell 20 which is received in the clamping-eye 10 of the steering post. The part 15 may be solid or hollow ; the sleeve 19 may be a seamless tube (after vulcanization in situ) or split ; the shell 20 may be in one piece or segments ; and the handle-bar adjacent the central part may be tapered, as at 14, so that the shell 20 may be of the normal diameter to be received in a normal clamping-eye.
