Abstract

561,393. Sheet metal drums &c. HOWARTH, R. S. Aug. 8, 1942, Nos. 11141 and 17324. [Class 21] A collapsable sheet metal drum, &c. comprises a body 16 formed from a single sheet of metal carrying angle irons 18 detachably connected by bolts 19 with packing 20 interposed between the angle irons and, if desired, between these and the body 16. The edges may be flanged at right angles and these flanges detachably secured together instead of using angle irons. Along the upper and lower edges angle lugs are welded or otherwise secured at intervals and end covers extending over the lugs are secured by bolts. The rims of the body seat in packing-containing grooves in the ends formed by upstanding walls or by pressing in the metal of the covers. Alternatively the covers are dished and the free edges bent to seat over the rims of the body. In another form lugs on one set of angle irons pass through apertures in the other set and are secured by sliding bolts. The meeting edges of sheet 16 may overlap. The covers may also be secured by sliding bolts carried by the cover, a flange on which seats on the rear of the body with packing interposed.
