Abstract
558,969. Counting-apparatus. IGRANIC ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. (Cutler Hammer, Inc.). July 24, 1942, No. 10385. [Class 106 (i)] [Also in Group XXXVII] A predetermined number of impulses in an electromagnet 9 cause the step-by-step rotation of a ratchet wheel 2 till a switch or other device is operated ; the ratchet wheel is later released by energization of a release magnet 10 or operation of a hand lever when it returns under spring bias till an arm 60 on the spindle 13 of the ratchet wheel engages a stop 62 on an adjustable dial 61 graduated to indicate at 66 the number of impulses necessary to actuate the switch. The armature 17 of magnet 9 is pivoted at 19 and carries an arm 23 carrying the operating pawl 21 which is connected by springs 25 with a retaining pawl 22. A member 40 also prevents overrun of the ratchet wheel by impeding the pawl 21 at the end of its driving stroke. Energization of the release magnet 10 causes a member 30 to push both pawls 21, 22 out of engagement with the ratchet wheel, the member 40 being also moved so as not to obstruct this movement. The spindle 13 of the ratchet wheel carries a radial arm which is adapted to operate a contact carrying plunger, Fig. 5 (not shown).
