[Classes 106 (ii) and 106 (iv)] A recording gauge for use in connection with apparatus adapted to carry out a manufacturing or industrial process, as for example the sterilization of garments or surgical dressings, has a recording arm A, Figs. 1 and 2, operatively connected to the indicating mechanism of the gauge B and disposed so as to record its movement on a sheet or card L supported on a carriage which is movable vertically downwards at a constant speed for a predetermined length of time. The carriage comprises a plate F guided on pillars G and a rack K2 engaging a pinion K' of a clockwork mechanism K for controlling its movement. The clock mechanism may be spring driven and the carriage may be adapted to wind the spring when moved to its raised position; alternatively the carriage may constitute a driving weight, the pinion K<SP>1</SP> being provided with a oneway clutch means. A number of cards L are arranged in a tray M supported on the carriage in clips N and retained therein by ball catches O. A spring-pressed plate M4 holds the outermost card up to the inturned edges M3. The cards are preferably formed with tabs L<SP>1</SP> which may be graded in length to permit of ready withdrawal after a record has been made and can be attached to the goods after treatment for checking purposes. For the purpose of removing a card automatically after completing the record a spring finger P with an inturned lip P', Fig. 8, is adapted to engage the upper edge of the outermost card when the carriage is in its lowest position. A record of the pressures and the time over a two-hour period is shown on the card L, Fig. 6. If the gauge is to be used with a process which takes less time the handle F<SP>1</SP> used to raise the carriage co-operates with a time scale so that it can be raised to the desired extent. During the return movement of the carriage the recording arm may be raised to an inoperative position.
