Abstract
557,938. Cooling charges. ELECTRIC RESISTANCE FURNACE CO., Ltd., SQUIRE, L. E., and COTTRIDGE, D. E. J. June 8, 1942, No. 7775. [Class 51 (ii)] A quenching tank into which articles supported in a carrier are lowered vertically after heat treatment in a furnace is provided with supports which are moved out of the path of the carrier and charge during the lowering operation and subsequently moved towards the carrier and charge so as to centre and eventually support them. As shown in Fig. 1, the tank 1, Fig. 1, is provided internally with plates 3 having bearings 4, 5, Fig. 2, for supporting vertical shafts 6, 7, 8 carrying supporting members 9, 10, 11 provided with guide lugs 12 for the carrier. The upper ends of the shafts are provided with levers 13, 14, 15 interconnected by a chain 17 travelling in flanged guides 2, 16 at the top of the tank. The lever 15 is extended and provided with an aperture 32 to receive the end of a hooked bar by which the levers and supporting members are moved. A spring-pressed detent 25 on the lever 15 engages with notches 27 on a guide bar 28 in the extreme positions of the supporting members and the detent retains the end of the hooked bar in the aperture 32 while the lever 15 is being moved between the extreme positions which are defined by stop 33 on the flange 2.
