Abstract

556.886. Copper oxide rectifier element. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Oct. 2, 1942, No. 13874. Convention date, Oct. 4, 1941. [Classes 37 and 41] the cubic oxide layer and part of the underlying cuprous oxide layer formed on copner oxide rectifier elements are reduced to metallic cooper by cathodic treatment for about six minutes in a 0.5 ner cent caustic soda solution at room temperature and low voltage (13-15 volts), rinsed in weak HCl and plated with Co., Ni., or Zn. Specification 283,901, [Class 37], is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, states that defective completed elements may be rendered satisfactorily by being treated with concentrated HNO 3 and H 2 SO 4 to remove the plated metal and the copper layer, rinsed, and then treated as above. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accented.
