Abstract
555,652. Tents combined with automobiles. GARDNER, J. G., and QUARRELL, C. April 13, 1942, No. 4839. [Class 20 (i)] A tent for application to the roof of a motor car comprises a horizontal framework 2 secured by fittings 4, 5 and a central resiliently mounted bolt 10 to the roof, a collapsable framework 9 hinged to the horizontal framework and a front resilient guy rope 18 for maintaining the framework in erected position. A covering material 13 is secured to the collapsable framework members and to the horizontal framework. The collapsable framework may be formed as arched members pivoted to the side bars 3 of the horizontal frame alternately inside and outside of the flanges of these side bars and the hoops may be interconnected at their tops by longitudinal members 28, and braces 26 are provided on the framework members pivoted to the insides of the side bars 3. A door flap is provided at the rear of the tent and to provide access to the roof a jointed ladder 19 is also provided. Windows 15 and ventilation hoods 14 are provided in the flexible covering material. Joists 25 may be provided under each running board of the car to provide stability. According to the Provisional Specification the horizontal framework may be attached to the car roof by rubber suction fittings and bolts,
