Shelters for housing aircraft. - A portable hangar or like building for aircraft, lorries, tanks, &c. is constructed so that, when the parts, which are of wood, are assembled, no externally projecting parts interfere with the application of the waterproof covering forming the walls and roofing, the structure is rigid without the aid of the covering, and no foundations are required if the ground is level. The structure is composed of braced lattice uprights A forming externally vertical side walls and having foot sills and roof sills 5, and of roof trusses C preferably of the " Belfast " type, the several trusses and uprights being detachably connected by roof purlins D and side purlins B respectively. The uprights A are of the form shown, having struts 1 strengthened by bolts, the roof and foot sills being also strutted. They may be made in two sections connected by brackets and straps, while a metal strap 7 up the upright from the foot-sill takes the anchoring-bolt 11, which is connected to the anchoring-sleepers 12 buried in the ground. The side purlins B are connected to the uprights by bolts, and the roof purlins D to the sectional roof trusses C by pin and bayonet joints. The adjacent trusses are braced by stays 19, 21, and the roof and side purlins are connected together by wire ropes 22, 23 respectively. The end uprights are provided with inward extensions as shown, to serve as side frames for the curtain door. The bays E between the uprights may be furnished with beds or hammocks 38 or fitted up as cupboards &c. The cover 30 may be continuous or made up of strips overlapping. The end cover of the building is reinforced and provided with guy-ropes to prevent ballooning.
