Abstract
555,193. Antifreezing agents. WEST, H. L., and OGSTON, A. R. April 10, 1941, No. 4799. [Class 29] A composition for application to parts of aircraft and other surfaces to prevent the formation of ice thereon comprises a jelly base consisting of 7-17 per cent. by weight of gelatine, soap, gum or other gelatinous material and 93-83 per cent. of glycol, glycerol, homologues thereof or polyglycol or polyglycerol and 5-20 per cent. of an organic liquid which is immiscible with ice or water and remains liquid at 10‹ F. A dispersing agent such as alkali metal and organic base soaps, naphthenates, sulphonates and monohydric alcohols, may be added to facilitate the incorporation of the immiscible liquid. Examples using glycol and gelatine as the jelly base also contain pine oil, mineral oil or castor oil as the immiscible liquid and soap, triethanolamine oleate or isopropylalcohol. Another example comprises glycerol, glycol, sodium stearate, gelatine and mineral oil.
