555,183. Woven fabrics. UNITED STATES RUBBER CO. July 4,1942, No. 9266. Convention date, Sept. 9, 1941. [Class 142 (iv)] [Also in Group VIII] A suede surface is imparted to one or both faces of an asbestos woven fabric by passing the fabric F over and/or under pin rollers 22, 25, the pins 21 of which penetrate deep into the fabric to spread the fibres laterally in the fabric between the threads and also raise the fibres to the surface. The suede surface is thus composed of fibres which are separated partly from their respective warps and wefts and form floats the ends of which remain rooted to the respective threads. Fine fabrics, having 30 or more threads to the inch in the warp and weft may be used, and the duede fabric may be used as a cover for flat press ironers or for covering the rolls of roller ironers.
