555,099. Loading and unloading cartridge belts. BOULTON PAUL AIRCRAFT, Ltd., and HINDS, J. E. March 26, 1942, No. 4041. [Class 92 (ii)] A hand tool for inserting a cartridge 6 in or withdrawing one from a metal-link belt 5 comprises a holder 1 with abutments 3, 4 for engaging the links and a plunger 12 reciprocated in the holder by a doublehandle device 15, 16 the arms of which are pivoted to the holder and spread by spring action. The arrangement is such that, to remove a cartridge, the arm 16 is fixed in the open position by a member 23 and the plunger, which engages the rim of the cartridge by extractors 13, is then moved rearwardly by operating the arm 15. To insert a cartridge, the member 23 is operated to fix the lever 15, and the arm 16 actuated to move the plunger forwardly. The arm 16 has a groove 26 engaging a knob 14 on the plunger and the arm 15 carries a pin 20 engaging a slot 22 in the plunger.
