Abstract
554,715. Frequency modulation. BLUMLEIN, A. D. Nov. 16, 1939, No. 30182. [Classes 40 (iii) and 40 (v)] Frequency-modulating apparatus for short-wave transmitters comprises a resonant concentric line structure with a diaphragm attached to its inner member so that its effective length may be varied by the signal. The structure, Fig. 1, comprises an outer cylinder 3 connected by an end plate 4 to a central member 5 the position of which is adjusted for tuning by rotating the threaded stem 6 in a fixed nut 7. Rubbing contact between the disc 4 and the stem 5 is provided by a tube 9 and contact members 10. Modulation is effected by varying the effective length of the stem 5 by attaching thereto a sleeve 19, Fig. 2, the end of which is closed by a diaphragm 13. A coil 16 supplied with signal current and moving in the gap of a magnet 17 drives the diaphragm 13 by means of the cylindrical coil support 15. The diaphragm may have a peripheral extension 22 sliding freely over the clamping ring 20. Specification 504,238 is referred to.
