Abstract
380,473. Television receivers. MULLER, C., 86, Soorstrasse, Charlottenburg, Berlin.. June 4, 1931, No. 16401. [Class 40 (iii).] In apparatus for radiation control, or for measuring &c., utilizing the alteration of form of a reflecting membrane surface, a membrane of metal or other sheet material is used which is stretched within its rigidly held margin by additional stretching means so as to have a surface which is completely plane or has a determined curvature. The thickness of the membrane is preferably less than .001 mm. In the simple form shown in Fig. 1 a metal skin m which is .00015 mm. thick in the centre and has a thickened rim r rests on a ring s. The weight of the thickened rim stretches the part within the ring s to produce a perfectly plane surface. A number of coaxial supporting rings may be used instead of the single one shown. Fig. 5 shows how a curved reflecting surface may be produced. The marginal tensioning of the skin m is controlled by screws b, c and the central portion is controlled by magnetic, electrostatic &c. forces applied by means of an adjustablymounted body M. The space between the reflector m and body M may comprise a gaseous or liquid cushion. Fig. 11 shows one manner of producing the desired configuration of the reflecting membrane electrostatically. The membrane m is supported on the ring s between two electrodes d, d<1> which are connected to opposite terminals of a source of potential, the membrane itself being connected to an intermediate point. By suitable disposition of one or more electrodes, any desired configuration of the reflecting surface can be obtained. The reflecting membrane produced as above described may be used in light control device employed in the telegraphic transmission of pictures for the conversion of electrical and magnetic impulses into light variations.
