553,712. Gas-producers. WELLMAN SMITH OWEN ENGINEERING CORPORATION, Ltd., and SCHIELDROP, B. H. Dec. 31, 1941, No. 16852. [Class 51 (ii)] Fuel fed to the top of a gas producer through an opening 4 falls on to a conical deflector 10 arranged in the free space at the top of the producer and is deflected towards the sides to form a fuel bed having a top surface of inverted conical shape. The deflector 10 is adjustably supported in a tubular casing 5 having a gas offtake 21 and a lateral feed passage 12 provided with an inclined hinged flap 20. Fuel is fed to the passage 12 from a hopper 11 by a reciprocating plunger 14 operated by a lever 16 actuated manually or by power. The stroke of the plunger may be varied by adjusting the position of the fulcrum of the lever 16. Specification 546,482 is referred to.
