553,384. Hydrous oxide gels; catalysts. STANDARD OIL DEVELOPMENT CO. Dec. 16, 1941, No. 16222. Convention date, Dec. 27, 1940. [Classes 1 (i) and 1 (ii)] A plastic product suitable for moulding or extruding is made by subjecting a hydrous gelatinous oxide to a shearing or tearing treatment e.g. in a colloid mill. The process is particularly applicable to the treatment of gelatinous silica with which another metal oxide, e.g. magnesia, may be mixed to produce a catalyst.
