Abstract

1,157,922. Producing silver. ERDOLCHEMIE G.m.b.H. April 28, 1966 [April 29, 1965], No. 18751/66. Heading C7D. Silver of large surface area suitable for a catalyst is produced by (i) heating silver lactate to 100-110‹ C., (ii) further heating the resultant melt at a temperature which is uniformly and progressively increased to 180‹ C. and (iii) heating the resulting product to 230-250‹ C. in the presence of oxygen. Lactates of gold, platinum, barium, magnesium, calcium or cerium can be admixed with the original silver lactate. A porous catalyst may be prepared by including an expanding agent such as lactic acid hydrazide or ammonium carbonate.
