Abstract

553,121. Piezo-electric crystals. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. March 28, 1942, No. 4172. Convention date, Oct. 19, 1940. [Class 40 (v)] A rectangular quartz piezo-electric crystal 1 arranged for vibration in an odd harmonic longitudinal node has its major plane parallel to an X axis of the natural crystal and the major dimension L is inclined at 45 degrees to the X axis and at an angle between 45 degrees and 52 degrees to the Z axis.The ratio of width W to length L and of length to thickness T are chosen according to a given formula so as to exclude even harmonic and other undesired nodes of vibration. The crystal is provided with an odd number of pairs of electrodes 4, and is clamped or attached to leads at the nodal point 6. The relative dimensions may be chosen to give a low temperature co-efficient of frequency which may also be attained by the series connection of a temperature sensitive condenser Fig. 4 (not shown).
