[Class 120 (ii) A spool or cop transfer device for a yarn winding machine comprises a reciprocating slide 12 carrying clamping mechanism 16, 20, Fig. 1, which automatically engages the the spool or cop when the slide moves outwardly to discharge it in a generally axial direction but which is inoperative to move the spool or cop during the return movement of the slide. The machine is provided with a disc 3 carrying seven winding spindles 4, Fig. 2, and also with a slide 12 mounted on the bars 8, 11. The slide 12 carries an upper fixed projecting arm 13 and an angular support 14 adjustably secured at 15 for a stirrup 16 adjustably secured by its leg 17. A swingable gripper arm 20 is mounted on a screw bolt 18 and is urged into engagement with the strirup 16 by a spring 21. When the spool at position A is completely wound the slide 12 is operated by a rod 23 connected at 24 to a slotted arm 25 mounted on a shaft 26, and on moving to the left, Fig. 1, the arm 13 displaces the carrier 7 against the spring 9 to release the spool from the counter holder 5. The disc 3 is then rotated one step and the wound spool moved to position B. On the return of the slide 12 to its original position the stirrup 16 and arm 20 pass over the wound spool. On the next advance movement of the slide 12 the wound spool is detached from the mounting head of its winding spindle and carried to the left, the movement of the slide being stopped sufficiently abruptly to allow the inertia of the spool to overcome the spring 21 and free the spool.
