Abstract

551.828. Winding bobbins &c. COURTAULDS, Ltd., and WHOLTON, F. Sept. 9, 1941, No. 11509. [Classes 120 (ii) and 120 (iii)] A device for maintaining the tension constant in yarns, threads, or the like being delivered from one point to another, e.g. in winding thread A from a cable B into a cone H, comprises a frictional surface D between two fixed guides C, F, a movable guide E attached to a hollow disc K rotatable about an axle L and containing a loosely inserted stabilising weight P and an adjustable weight M for balancing the movable guide; the weight is on the same side of the disc, with respect to the vertical plane in which the axis of the disc lies, as the guide and variations in tension are compensated by the movable guide oscillating and varying the contact of the thread with the surface D. The surface D may be a porcelain rod and as in Specification 523,580 electrical contacts may be fitted to close a circuit, when the adjustable weight reaches a certain position, and ring a bell or operate a knock-off device to stop the machine when the thread breaks or undue variations in tension occur.
