Abstract
1,017,904. Creel apparatus; flyers. B. T. R. INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 14, 1963 [Nov. 16, 1962], No. 43508/62. Headings DID and D1J. An over-end let-off device for regulating the delivery of wire during unwinding of a reel comprises a flyer which is mounted to rotate about the stationary reel, the flyer comprising two guide members, the first providing an elongated guide surface parallel to the axis of the reel, and around which the wire is led to the second which guides the wire inwardly towards the reel axis. Braking means may act upon the flyer in dependence upon tension in the wire being drawn off. A stationary reel 16 is mounted upon a vertical spindle 4 upon which is also mounted a rotatable flyer disc 3. The latter supports both a vertical cylindrical rotatable roller 1 which acts as a first guide for the wire being drawn off from the reel and a second guide member consisting of a pulley 21 over which the wire passes to a guide eyelet 6 disposed above the spindle 4. The wire passes over a fixed pulley 9 to a pair of pulley blocks 10,11. The pulley block 11 is mounted on a weighted lever arm 13 one end of which is connected to a further lever attached to a brake band, not shown, which passes around the disc 3. Tension in the stretches of wire between the pulley blocks 10, 11 opposes the braking action exerted by the weight 12 so that the wire is drawn off from the reel at substantially uniform tension. In a modification (Figs. 3, 4, 5 not shown) the flyer disc is mounted below the stationary reel of wire.
