551,653. Calcium sulphites. BECHARD, J. R. M. June 10, 1941, No. 7345. [Class I (iii)] [Also in Group VI] The residues resulting from the purification of sugar juices by lime or phosphates and followed by treatment with carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide or dilute phosphoric or sulphuric acid, which are obtained either as filter cake or as mud left after decantation are treated with sulphur dioxide to obtain soluble salts which may be sulphites, bisulphites, metabisulphites, phosphates &c. The product may be used for treatment of sugar juices or the soluble salts may be separated and crystallized or used for treating sugar juices. Specification 183,485, [Class 1 (iii)], is referred to.
