551,298. Making emulsions and dispersions; soaps ; insecticides ; tanning agents. WALSH, C. L., and NEWMAN, A. A. June 5, 1940, No. 9860. [Classes 1 (i) and 91] [Also in Groups VI and VIII] Emulsions and dispersions are prepared by means of the gelatinous material obtained by alkaline extraction of the fleshy growth of Agaves and plants of kindred families such as Phormiun Temax and embracing Aloe, Henrequen, and Sanseviera and in some cases the roots and boles of such plants. The material is used in acid, neutral, or alkaline form according to the nature of the substance to be emulsified and is added either prior to or during the addition of the substance to the dispersion medium and the mixture then homogenized According to examples, the gelatinous material from treating Sisal with tin-sodium phosphate or sodium carbonate is added to asphalt dissolved in heavy oil or coal tar to form a road surfacing material, to acid tars from wood distillation, to fats, fatty oils and greases for use in tanning, to tetra-hydro-mephthalene to form a soap, and to powder of arsenical or copper salts to form an insecticide.
