550,195. Textile lubricants. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd. June 24, 1941, No. 7930. Convention date, June 28, 1940. [Class 91] [Also in Group IV] A lubricating and finishing composition for textile materials comprises a lubricant oil, an anti-static agent, a sulphonated long-chain aliphatic carboxylic acid for increasing the penetrating, spreading and emulsifying properties of the composition and a blending agent. The composition is preferably applied to the textile materials in the form of an aqueous emulsion. The lubricant oil may be a mineral oil or a vegetable oil, such as olive oil. castor, tea seed, cotton-seed, oxidized olive, or oxidized castor oil. The anti-static agent is preferably an inorganic electrolyte such as an inorganic salt. The sulphonated long-chain aliphatic carboxylic acid may be sulphonated oleic, lauric, or palmitic acid. The sulphonation is preferably carried out by the use of oleum at 15-30‹C. The lubricant oil and blending agent may be added to the sulphonation mixture and the unreacted sulphuric acid may be neutralized with caustic soda or potash with formation of a sulphate which serves as the inorganic electrolyte anti-static agent. The blending agent may be a higher alcohol, e.g. oleyl, cetyl, lauryl or stearyl alcohol, or a polyethylene glycol ether or ester, or other substance which is compatible with the other ingredients and which is capable of homogenizing the composition.
