Abstract
A textile dressing emulsion is obtained by incorporating together an oil, water, an electrolyte which is a hygroscopic salt, and a sulphonated higher fatty alcohol or a sulphuric ester of a higher fatty alcohol. Other additions which may be made are a higher fatty acid, or an alcohol or soap thereof. Suitable hygroscopic salts are magnesium chloride, chlorate and nitrate, calcium chlorate and nitrate, zinc chloride, ammonium or magnesium citrates. Suitable oils are mineral oils or olive or castor oil. Suitable fatty alcohol derivatives are products obtained by the action of sulphuric acid on lauryl oleyl and palmityl alcohols, and other such products containing sulphonic and/or sulphate groups; such products may be used in the form of water-soluble sodium, potassium, or amine salts, particularly with triethanolamine. The dressing may be applied to artificial filaments at any stage in their manufacture or may be added to the spinning solution. The dressing is particularly suitable for staple fibres. In an example, mineral oil, sulphonated lauryl alcohol and oleic acid are mixed together and emulsified with water, and a dilute solution of magnesium chloride added with agitation; the solution is sprayed on to cellulose acetate staple fibres so that they contain 1-4 per cent of liquid.ALSO:A textile dressing emulsion is obtained by incorporating together, an oil, water, an electrolyte which is a hygroscopic salt, and a sulphonated higher fatty alcohol or a sulphuric ester of a higher fatty alcohol.
