Abstract
548,816. Automatic control systems for grinding machines &c. BIRCHALL, T. Oct. 6, 1941, No. 12876. Drawings to Specification. [Class 38 (iv)] Level of fluid material; weight; current.-The load current variation in the circuit of a motor driving a grinding or other machine operating on loose material fed by an auxiliary motor operates an excess current relay to open the circuit of an electromagnetic device whereby the feed is stopped until the current has fallen. The level of material above the grinding &c. means is thus maintained between definite limits. The electromagnetic device may be an automatic starter for the auxiliary motor or an electromagnetically actuated pawl or clutch in conveyer feeding mechanism. The relay may itself open the circuit of the auxiliary motor and may be an electromagnetic switch with adjustable reclosing spring, a gravity operated switch, such as a mercury switch, or an electronic valve, preferably of the gaseous type with a transformer determining the voltage on the control electrode.
