Abstract
1,109,732. Thyratron magnet control circuits. WINDMÍLLER & HOLSCHER. 24 June, 1965, No. 26867/65. Heading H3P. In a circuit for energizing an A.C. electromagnet from D.C., the A.C. source at 6, 7 is rectified at 5 and used to charge a capacitor 3 via a resistance 4, the magnet 1 being coupled across the capacitor 3 via a switching device such as a thyratron 10. The magnet 1 is selected to have an A.C. voltage rating corresponding to that of the source 6, 7 whilst the resistance 4 is arranged so that when the magnet 1 is energized by operation of switch 10, after the initial discharge of capacitor 3, the magnet 1 consumes its rated current. The initial discharge current of capacitor 3 when switch 10 is operated reduces the attraction time of the magnet to 7 ms. The thyratron 10 may be triggered by a photodiode 14 which controls the output of a rectifier 15.
