Abstract

548,024. Electromagnetic relays. SIEMENS BROS. & CO., Ltd., and BRYAN, E. A. May 14, 1941, No. 6215. [Class 38 (v)] In an anti-capacity relay suitable for high frequency currents, the movable contact 13 and the fixed contact or contacts 11, 12 are formed of wires, rods or tubes of circular cross-section, are mounted on insulating members such as 14, 17 and are arranged obliquely toeach other. In the form shown the fixed wire contacts 11, 12 are mounted so as when looked at from above to subtend an angle of 120 degrees with each other and with the movable wire contact 13 which is pivoted at its right hand end and pressed down by a spring 21. When the electromagnet is energized its armature 6 is attracted and by means of a further insulator 23 raises the contact 13 out of engagement with contact 12 and into engagement with contact 11. In a modification, Figs. 5-8 (not shown), the armature also operates a contact-spring set of the ordinary telephone type. Instead of the moving contact being pivoted it may be resilient and a biasing spring such as 21 dispensed with. In a further modification the contact may be made stiffer by introducing waves along its length, the inductance being kept down by bending it into U-formation with symmetrical corrugations in the two limbs. The contacts may be coated with silver and/or gold or rhodium, or a sleeve of a noble metal may be used.
