Abstract
626,435. Electromagnetic relays. WESTERN ELECTRIC CO., Inc. Aug. 27, 1947, No. 23713. Convention 'date, Aug. 28, 1946 [Class 38(v)] The armature 27 of a relay is fixed to an insulating operating member 30 through slots in which pass an upper row of contact springs 16 and a lower row of cooperating contact springs 14. The upper springs 16 take the form of wires to the ends of which are welded flat pieces 20 and when it is desired that energization of the relay should "make" a circuit or circuits the corresponding springs 16 are fixed to the member 30 by being looped over a cross portion 37 of it, Fig. 10. These springs serve to support the armature and when the latter is attracted they move with it to engage their lower contacts 14 which pass through a slot 38 in the member 30 and normally rest against a fixed insulating cross bar 42. The remaining upper springs 16 normally engage their lower springs 14, as shown in Fig. 9, the slots in the member 30 being of suitable form and downward movement of the armature 27 causes a " break." The core 1 of the relay is E-shaped and the coil 6 is wound on the centre leg. The armature 27 extends over all three legs. The lower spring 14 consists each of two wires of different diameter to prevent simultaneous opening of contacts due to similar periods of vibration. A front cover 62 with a window 63 is adapted to be telescoped over a rear cover 55 which supports the cross bar 42.
