Abstract

751,762. Electromagnetic switches. BORG CORPORATION, W. N. Dec. 31, 1953 [Jan. 27, 1953], No. 36351/53. Class 38(5) A shock-proof relay comprises a pair of cores 5, 6 movable towards and away from each other within a solenoid spool 2, a rod 7 secured to the core 5 slidably extending through the core 6, and a rod 8 secured to the core 6 slidably extending through the core 5. The rod ends abut rockers 9, 10 fulcrummed at 11, 12 on end plates 13, 14, a further rod 15 secured to the core 5 slidably passing through the end plates and carrying an insulating collar 30 biased by a spring 50. Recesses 45 in the collar receive the free ends of a plurality of radially-arranged contact blades 35 cooperating with respective pairs of fixed contact blades 40, 41. When the coil 1 is not energized the cores 5, 6 are spaced as in Fig. 1, energization of the coil causing movement of the cores against a non- magnetic separator 18 and operation of the contacts 35. On de-energization of the coil the spring 50 restores the parts. The cnntact chamber 17 may be filled with an inert gas.
