[Class 80 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXIV] A combined clutch, brake and flywheel assembly is mounted on a part of a shaft 14 projecting from the frame 13 of a press, the flywheel 15 being between the clutch and the brake, mechanical and fluid pressure means acting in opposition to one another being provided for actuating the clutch and brake. As shown, the flywheel 15, which is driven by. any suitable means, is mounted on bearings 24, 25, carried by clutch and brake members 22, 23, keyed to the shaft 14. The clutch has friction plates 71 splined to the flywheel and plates 76, 67, splined to the member 22. The plate 67 is secured to discs 61, 64, the latter being adjustably screwed to a piston 53 slidable in a cylinder 52 formed in a member 47 fixed to the shaft 14. The brake has friction plates 32 splined to a member 28 fixed to the press frame 13. A plate 35 between the plates 32. is splined to a plate 26 splined to the shaft 14. Slidable rods 81 pass through the members 22, 23. At one end they abut the member 26 and at the other end they abut a sleeve 82 adjustably screwed to the member 61. Compression springs 36 act on the member 26 and tend to engage the brake, and, through the rods 81, to disengage the clutch. The springs are overcome and the clutch is engaged and the brake is disengaged by fluid pressure which is passed into the cylinder 52 through passages 79 in the shaft 14 and member 47. Wear in the clutch is taken up by adjusting adjusting the disc 64 on the piston 53, and wear in the brake is accommodated by adjusting the sleeve 82 in the member 61.
