[Class 80 (ii)] In a centrifugal friction clutch of the single intermediate driven disc type having a reaction plate 16, Fig. 1, against which centrifugal weights 54 act to move the presser plate 12 axially for engagement, a cover-plate is dispensed with by mounting the plates 16, 12 and their centrifugal and spring assemblies as a unit directly on the driving fly-wheel 10 by means of a ring of tension members 32 extending through the main pressure springs 38 and each having at one end means for securing it to the fly-wheel and at the other an abutment for the spring. As shown, the tension members are loosely mounted in an annular ring or a series of individual plates 28 secured to the axially projecting periphery of the fly-wheel by bolts (not shown) whose heads project through clearance holes in the plate 16. The springs 38, which may be replaced by Belleville washers, have one end located about up-set apertures 36 in the plate 16 and the other engaged by caps 40 retained by spring clips on the tension members. The presser-plate 12 is retracted by springs 68, Fig. 4, and entrained through interengaging lugs 62, 64 by the fly-wheel 10, the centrifugal weights 54 being fulcrumed on the plate 12 and engaging the plate 16 through compression links 58 located in arcuate slots therein. In Fig. 5 (not shown) the fly-wheel periphery does not project axially, the tension members being extended for direct threaded engagement therewith and having shoulders limiting the movement of the reaction plate towards the fly-wheel.
