[Class 7 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVI] In an engine-driven fire-fighting pump having a cooling-system for the engine supplied from the water being pumped, the valve for controlling the supply of this cooling-water is so connected with the valve controlling the connection of the pump to the priming-means that a single control closes one of the valves and opens the other. Fig. 1 shows the engine 10 having its cooling-jacket connected by pipes 15, 16 to a tank 14, through a coil 17 in which is circulated water supplied by a pipe 18 opening at 20 into the pump outlet, the coil discharging at 19. Priming of the pump is effected by evacuating a pipe 25 leading from the pump inlet 26, by means of an ejector 23 supplied with engine exhaust. The two pipes 18 and 25 are controlled by a single lever 31 actuating a rotary valve 41 common to the two pipes, so that one pipe is closed when the other is open. The lever 31 may also actuate a valve 28 so as to shut off the normal engine exhaust pipe 27 and direct the gases to the ejector 23 when priming is to be effected.
