Abstract

544,790. Pneumatic conveyers. FOSTER WHEELER, Ltd. Dec. 23, 1940, No. 18053. Convention date, Jan. 9. [Class 78 (i)] [Also in Group XII] In a furnace burning fuel producing fly ash, the ash is collected and carried to the vicinity of the furnace in a current of air where the major portion of the air is separated from the fly ash which is delivered to the furnace in a downward direction while the separated air is delivered to the furnace at a higher level. As applied to a steam generating plant, the ash is collected in hoppers 37, 38, 39 and passes through rotary valves 41 into a conduit 45 supplied with air from a blower 46 and is carried to a separator and burner 47 from which the fly ash passes downwardly through the pipe 49 to the furnace while air passes through the pipe 48 to the furnace at a higher level. The separator and burner is of the kind described in U.S.A. Specification 2,118,600.
