Abstract

[Classes 38 (iii) and 38 (v)] A multi-position drum 4 can only be moved from one position to another after the handle 6 has been depressed, thereby opening contacts A and breaking the holding circuit of a line contactor 14. After the handle 6 is released contacts A reclose and contacts B make a momentary closure to energize the coil of the contactor 14. Momentary closure of contacts B ensures no-volt protection, for, after voltage failure, the contactor will not automatically reclose as the contacts B are open. In a modification, the contacts B are closed by an upward movement of the handle 6 beyond its normal position. Momentary closure of contacts B is obtained by connecting the moving contact member to the piston 17 of a dash-pot. When the cylinder 18 is moved upwards the contacts are closed and remain closed until air has escaped from the dash-pot whereupon a spring 16 is able to open the contacts.
