Abstract
540,621. Thermal switches. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd., SIMS, W. J., and FELLA, J. H. April 30, 1940, No. 7753. [Class 38 (v)] When an electric kettle or like device becomes overheated a bi-metal strip 4 bends and moves a scissorlike member 13 so that shoulders 17 on it come clear of a slot in a stirrup 10 whereupon a spring 11 moves the stirrup rapidly upwards and ejects a plug from its contacts 7 thereby breaking the heating circuit. The scissor member 13 is also acted on by a spring 18 tending to open the "scissors".
