Abstract

468,494. Thermal switches. PIDDOCK, F. W., and LORCH, W. Nov. 10, 1936, No. 30686. [Class 38 (v)] A thermal cut-out for an electric kettle &c. comprises a member g pivoted at h and carrying a contact rod g<1> adapted to bridge two spring contacts f<2>, f<3>, the member g being held in this position against the action of a spring by a U-shaped bimetal detent j<1>. On overheating, the detent j<1> releases the contact arm which flies to the open position. The device may be mounted in a plug casing b attached to the kettle, the contacts f<2>, f<3> being in the circuit between a pin c and a socket d connected to the resistance wiring m. The other pin c and socket d are connected by the pin h which forms the pivot of the member g.
