Abstract
540,437. Electrodeposition of metals. MALLORY METALLURGICAL PRODUCTS, Ltd. Dec. 6, 1940, No. 17376. Convention date, Dec. 19, 1939. [Class 41] Different metals are simultaneously deposited on an article made the cathode in an electrolytic bath from a number of anodes consisting of the metals, a single or multi-phase alternating current being applied to the anodes A through rectifiers so that each of them is alternately charged in the same sense, a pulsating direct current voltage being applied to the cathode C. In the arrangement shown the current is supplied to two anodes, which may for instance, be of copper and zinc for the deposition of brass, from the tapped secondary S of a transformer T through rectifiers R1, R2, the bath consisting of a solution of copper, zinc, and sodium cyanides with sodium carbonate. To prevent heating of the bath a condenser shown in dotted lines may be connected across the anodes. By the employment of multi-phase working, anodes of more than two different metals can be used, or in some cases alloy anodes may be employed.
