Abstract
Electroplating, electrocleaning and electropolishing, particularly electroplating with chromium and copper, is performed by pulses of direct current derived from a rectifying circuit (see Division H2) wherein the intervals between pulses comprise 60 degrees or less of the A.C. cycle, the A.C. frequency being mains frequency say 60 c/s. In one example for copper plating, the supply was used with a spent bright-cyanide-copper plating bath. The plate produced in 10 minutes of plating at 20 amps/sq ft. was bright and free from micromodules. Comparison is made with known methods using low ripple current wherein current was interrupted for 1 second after 10 seconds plating.
