Abstract
540,182. Refractory materials. LUCAS, A. R., and LUCAS, L. R. J. May 4, 1940, No. 8041. Addition to 539,957. [Class 22] Refractory material such as high temperature insulation bricks are coated with a blend or mixture of two or more refractory materials of different thermal co-efficients of expansion, the mixture having substantially the same co-efficient of thermal expansion over each part of the working temperature range as the material to be coated. Mixtures of cordierite and magnesite, corundum and aluminous firebrick or mullite brick, magnesite and chrome are suitable. They are mixed with clay and water and a flux such as sodium silicate for coating.
