Abstract

539,430. Dyeing cellulosic fibres ; condensation products. COURTAULDS, Ltd., and ARMFIELD, W. March 6, 1940, Nos. 4190 and 6092. [Classes 2 (iii) and 15 (ii)] Natural or artificial cellulosic fibres are brought into condition for dyeing with any dyestuffs capable of dyeing wool by a treatment with ethylenediamine or 1 : 2-propylenediamine and formaldehyde or with a compound of the diamine with formaldehyde. In examples, (1) viscose staple fibre is impregnated with an aqueous solution, at pH =4.0, containing ethylenediamine and formaldehyde, hydro-extracted, dried and heated for 15 minutes at 140‹ C. ; the treated fibre may be dyed a deep shade with Azo geranine 2GS from a formic acid bath at 95-100‹ C. ; (2) the ethylenediamine in (1) is replaced by 1:2- propylenediamine and the heating may be for 6 hours at 75‹ C. The process claimed in Specification 532,113 is disclaimed. Specifications 234,618, [Class 15 (ii)], 450,516 and 528,741 are referred to.
