Abstract

537,964. Dyeing textiles. COURTAULDS, Ltd., WILCOCK, C. C., and TATTERSFIELD, C. P. Jan. 12, 1940, No. 711. [Class 15 (ii)] Mixed fibres of wool and of cellulose which has been animalized by incorporating therein a reaction product of cyanamide and formaldehyde are dyed with a metal complex compound of an azo dyestuff in a dyebath containing tannic acid. The animalizing of the cellulose fibres may be effected as described in Specifications 506,793 or 515,847, [Group VII]. In examples, (1) regenerated cellulose staple fibre yarn is treated for 20 minutes with a dilute acetic acid solution at 90‹ C. of a product made by condensing cyanamide (1 mol.) with formaldehyde (1 mol.) in weakly alkaline solution and is then mixed with an equal weight of wool and the mixture dyed a deep pink by treatment for 1 hour in a boiling aqueous bath containing "Neolan" (Registered Trade Mark) red BRE, formic acid and tannic acid ; (2) viscose rayon staple fibre is steeped for 5 minutes in an aqueous solution at 20‹ C. containing cyanamide and formaldehyde to which ammonium thiocyanate has been added after adjusting to pH = 6, squeezed, centrifuged, dried, heated for 20 minutes at 140‹ C. and mixed with an equal weight of wool, and the mixture is dyed a level shade on the two fibres by treatment for 1¢ hours in a boiling dyebath containing "Neolan" pink B, formic acid and tannic acid ; (3) the mixture of treated rayon and wool in (2) is similarly dyed with "Palatine" (Registered Trade Mark) fast yellow ELN, the depth of the shade on the rayon being varied by varying the amount of tannic acid in the dyebath. Specifications 482,345, 484,984 and 496,944. also are referred to.
