Abstract

538,079. Head-coverings. TAMPIER, R. June 12, 1940, No. 10229. [Class 63] A protective head covering for use during air raids comprises a head shield and a support therefor depending from the, shield and adapted to be supported on the shoulders of the wearer. The head shield may be rectangular and arched' transversely and may be built up of superposed composite layers 2 each comprising a sheet of wire netting or expanded metal covered by paper or fabric and separated by layers of cork or india-rubber. The shield is secured by turn buttons 12' to an assembly comprising a back plate 14 having a pad 18 and side plates 12, 13 terminating in shoulder pads 16, 17. The side and rear plates may be of metal or wood. Straps 19 terminate in loops engaging a waist strap 23. Hooks 24 allow wire netting or expanded metal to surround a group of wearers, to form a protective curtain.
