Abstract
632,755. Corsets; stiffeners. SYMINGTON & CO., Ltd., R. & W. H., and BROOME, J. E. Sept. 3, 1947, No. 24310. [Class 141] A corset or similar body-supporting garment is provided with one or more wide stiffening plates each of which extends downwardly from the upper edge of the garment and extends over a comparatively wide area, being interposed between inner and outer layers of the garment together with one or more additional stiffening layers adapted to extend downwardly below the plate and be secured at the lower edge to the garment fabric. As shown, a plate 14 is secured between the plies of the front panel 1 of a corset with its V-shaped lower edge held by stitching 18, together with an additional layer 15 whose lower edge may be ornamental and held by stitching 19. The plate may be formed of rubber or flexible plastic sheeting and the additional layer of fabric or thin plastic sheeting. The plate may be applied to the back panel or elsewhere in the garment and more than one plate may be used. According to the Provisional Specification, the plate may be formed of leather, buckram or spring steel sheet or of strips joined together edge to edge.
