Abstract
532,549. Boxes. WATTS, C. J., and JOHNS, SON & WATTS, Ltd. Sept. 7, 1939, No. 25254. [Class. 18] A box is produced by folding a one-piece blank more than once about parallel scores k, l, l<SP>1</SP> to produce walls each having at least two contiguous plies of material over the greater part of its area, and then folding the blank about scores a, b, c at right angles to the scores k, l, l<SP>1</SP> to bring the walls into tubular form. Some or all of the sides have flaps A to produce the bottom of the box. Slots m may be cut along the scores a, b, c of the inner ply of the walls to facilitate folding of the blank. As shown, the outermost ply of the side walls may be of less height than the inner ply so as to form a shoulder to receive the cover of the box. Alternatively the walls of the inner ply may be shorter than the outer walls so that a box having a recessed bottom is produced. Flaps for forming the box bottom may also be provided at the end remote from the flaps A so that a box having a double bottom is obtained. The interior surface of the box may be covered with tin foil or other metal foil or may be coated with a waterproofing substance. The complete box may be of triangular, octagonal or other prismatic form.
